DIY plans for a hexagonal birdhouse with a pyramid-style roof. The Step-by-step instructions cover the entire process, including cutting the pieces and fixing them together, which requires some complicated compound angles but you will see how it is easily done.
All dimensions are provided in both standard inches and metric units. The downloadable PDF file contains 20 pages.
The necessary materials are:
1 piece of 140mm×19mm (3/4in. x 5-1/2in.) wood, 1800mm (6 feet) long.
1 piece of 19mm (3/4in.) dowel (round wood) about 100mm (4in.) long.
1 piece of 9mm (3/8in.) thick plywood, 250mm (10in.) square.
12 little blocks of wood for holding the pieces together while the glue sets.
6mm (1/4in.) macrame type exterior rope, 3m (10 feet) long .
6 screws for the base, 12 nails to hold the blocks in place while the glue dries.
A good exterior glue.
You will need the following tools:
A compound miter saw, measuring tape, pencil, hammer, sandpaper, drill and bits.
The finished birdhouse measures approximately 225mm (9in.) high, and 265mm (10-1/2in.) wide.
The building process simply involves – cutting and gluing the pieces, holding them in place until the glue dries, attaching the roof to the wall, drilling rope holes, threading the rope, and screwing the base to the walls before hanging it up.
